ASTM D751 Comparison

FiberTite Roofing Membranes - ASTM D751 Comparison - Adhesion of Coating

Adhesion of Coating

The force required to peel the exterior coating from the base fabric.

The test is performed on a one inch (2.5 cm.) wide sample of membrane. The exterior coating is sliced and peeled away from the base fabric. The results are reported in pounds-force (Newtons); or in cases where the coating cannot be peeled from the base fabric, it is reported as a "no peel".

*All results have been reported in the machine direction (MD) of the fabric.

This test relates to the ability of the coating to adhere to the base fabric. Good coating adhesion is important in preventing delamination of the coating compound.

Good adhesion is also a prerequisite to weld strength.

Delamination will result in leakage through the membrane or along the seam and promote premature failure of the roof system.
