MidwestOne Bank in Naples

Bank of Naples’ roof holds up despite exposure to 25 years of Florida’s tropical sun, rain, heat and hurricanes.

Despite exposure to Florida’s tropical sun, rain, heat, and hurricanes for more than 25 years, MidwestOne Bank’s roof in Naples, Florida, is holding up perfectly.

Project Details:Bank of Naples | Installed July, 1994

Name: MidwestOne Bank in Naples
Dates: Installed in July, 1985
Location: Naples, FL U.S.A.

Project Story:

In 1985, MidwestOne Bank in Naples, Florida, selected FiberTite® to replace an old built-up roof on its office building located in downtown. It was a pretty risky investment at the time. FiberTite had just been introduced to the market in 1979 and the roof of the bank’s four-story office facility had full exposure to Southwest Florida’s unforgiving climate.

More than 25 years later, that risky investment is still paying dividends. Despite years of facing Florida’s tropical sun, rain, heat, and winds, the FiberTite roof endures.

“The membrane is holding up just fine,” commented Terrill Brake, general manager of Sutter Roofing in Naples, Fla., the contractor now in charge of maintaining the roof.

BothWhen Hurricane Charley and Hurricane Wilma — two of the fiercest storms ever to travel the Atlantic Basin — wreaked havoc throughout Naples during the record-breaking back-to-back hurricane seasons of 2004 and 2005, they barely left a mark on the FiberTite roof over the bank. The roof also survived a a direct hit from Hurricane Irma in 2017 despite a few minor damages on the edge metal and from flying debris.

“These storms caused minor damage to the drains and the roof’s perimeter; but the membrane itself has held up perfectly.” said Brake. “The beauty of the FiberTite product is that it remains weldable to the surface – even after 25 years. No other roofing system will do that. It is unheard of that you can weld to a roof’s surface after 25 years of performance. Other systems require great measures to repair them to make the repairs last.”

In 2010, the MidwestOne Bank in Naples received a FiberTite Silver Roof Award in recognition of the bank’s support in pioneering FiberTite’s reputation for durability and long life.
